A good neighbor always Honked!

Postby Tony D » Thu Oct 26, 2006 3:35 pm

I will miss the honking.

Even though I have been paddling for some years, I was never fortunate enough to paddle with Shane. My first trip down Tallulah 3 or 4 years ago was my first encounter with Shane. I was sitting on the shuttle bus talking to somebody about being from Alabama and a voice from behind me said, "me too." I of coarse knew of him. I felt like using the line from the movie Road House. "I thought you would be bigger." We talked as if we had been friends forever. I then realized that he was the guy in my neighborhood that always honked or waved as we passed each other. Up until this point, he was the guy with all the canoes. From this point on, he would always make it a point to stop by the house if I was in the yard and I did the same.

He was truly one of a kind.

I will miss my friend and neighbor.
