|

From what i understand a Birmingham judge ruled against the Alabama Rivers Alliance yesterday afternoon, and in favor of Cullman County on the Duck River Project. Dirst work is said to begin soon. Don't expect as much water to hit the mulberry in the next few seasons. |

| Smith Lake was filled in a very short amount of time (compared to what was expected) but Duck has a small watershed compared to Smith.. so i'm not sure. If i had to guess it would be 1-2 years to reach the 725' full pool elevation |

Correct me if I am wrong, but if I remember the dam will be North but real close to 278. I don't remember distance, I just glanced at a proposed site map a while ago.

|
|
Since it is meant to use to drinking water will we even have the opporturtunity for recreational releases?
How much of the Mulberry water will be taken away seen as the Duck is a major tributary?
Could American Whitewater step in and help with this process?
Is there anything we can do to get some help with the process of not making it happen, petitions, etc....?

Just tossing out a concern, but it might help if presented properly. There are several impieraled species that live in the waters of the Mulberry fork that could be negatively impacted if the flows are significantly impacted by the damn dam. Protecting one of the only known habitats for the Flatend Musk turtle, zebra mussels etc. might help stop the project or at least set a minimum flow that has to be released from the damn dam
Just some talking points that may have already been hashed out by the courts, but federal wildlife protection has more power than most city governments. _________________ "Pray humbly then proceed boldly" |

Any ideas from anyone to help with the subject. This is my favorite river int he world and I personally would be devastated if it dissapeared. We have some ideas but need more input. Everyone keep throwing out ideas. We are trying to gather as much as we can so I can give them to American Whitewater and set up a conference call between all non profits. This has to be stopped.

I'm headed there this morning to run it with happykillmore. slightly concerned about the 3 chicken index; does that mean there's floaters in the water?
there's no info on the Duck gage, so we're basing it off the Mul gage.
from my understanding, the time for petitioning ended last week with the judges ruling (I guess nothing is ever too late, so it's still worth a shot). |
